Biology Teacher

As a biology teacher at Northeast High School in East Baton Rouge Parish, I mastered the standards and Common Core curricula expected of our students. For my classes, I planned new and unique lessons that involved a range of technology integration, hands-on activities, and real-world applications. My students are given a new perspective on biology, and science as a whole, as we grapple with complex topics such as cellular biology and genetics, and then investigate how these ideas translate into our everyday lives.

I have mastered such technologies as Microsoft Office products, and am a certified Level 1 Google Educator. Beyond my Google Classroom, I implement tools such as Nearpod interactive presentations, Vocabulary.com class challenges, and a variety of online assessment tools. I strongly believe in the power of formative assessments to guide and inform instructional decisions, and am always looking for new ways to actively engage students in their own learning.

Beyond the Classroom

Never a fan of down time, I have always been involved in school activities outside of classroom teaching. I have been the assistant coach of our Lady Vikings Softball team for two seasons. Recently, I stepped forward to co-sponsor our chapter of National BETA Club, and reignite interest among our students in participating in nationally recognized honor societies.

My responsibilities in these extracurriculars included managing membership, organizing and hosting fundraisers and banquets, and planning field trips and other in-school functions. Effective communication with my co-sponsors/coaches and administrators was crucial to the success of these organizations.
