Professional info

I graduated from Louisiana State University in May 2014, with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resource Ecology and Management, and a minor in biology. I completed the alternate teacher certification program through Secondary Holmes, and I plan to use my knowledge of natural systems to educate the public on environmental issues facing society today and in the future. A strong foundation in science early in life is crucial to the development of environmentally conscious citizens, and I am positive that I will be able to provide my students with such an education.

Work experience

Biology Teacher
2016 - 2018
Biology Teacher
2016 - 2018

I am currently a biology teacher at Northeast High, a 7-12 combination school. In this position, I have discovered my skills in planning and gathering resources, and creating new and engaging lessons to help my students understand and appreciate scientific theories. I was actively involved in my students' lives, as an assistant softball coach and the co-sponsor of the National Beta Club.

Life Science Teacher
2015 - 2016

Immediately after earning my Masters in teaching, I became a 7th grade life science teacher at Woodlawn Middle School in Baton Rouge. I collaborated with another life science teacher to develop new lessons and modify existing lessons to better suit the needs of our individual students.

Conservation Genetics Lab Technician
2013 - 2014

In my senior year, I worked in the conservation genetics lab under the supervision of Dr. Sabrina Taylor. My work was part of my Honors Thesis, which investigated a gene found in many species that may influence dispersal and home range size. The Honors Thesis is an opportunity to conduct undergraduate research and produce a scholarly paper to present my findings. I publicly presented my research to a panel in April 2014. Funding for my research came from the School of Renewable Natural Resources, Chancellor's Student Aid, and the Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship.

International Student Volunteers - Australia
Summer 2013

I received academic credit for my participation in a 4-week volunteer program in Australia. For two weeks, I worked with a team of 8 volunteers on Phillip Island to restore habitat for the largest population of little blue penguins in the world. In the remaining two weeks, our team joined a dozen other teams from other projects for an adventure tour and cultural immersion experience along the east coast. During my time in Australia, I visited many historic sites, gained new skills in carpentry and operating farming equipment, and spoke with locals of Phillip Island and members of the Tjapukai aboriginal tribe.
